Why you need the Year
The Year of Writing Magically gives you the space and time to learn how you write.
Sure, you'll be working on your novel. A lot of writers finish their book during the Year; some don't. And that's okay.
The biggest benefit to writers who struggle to get their writing done is that the Year helps you unlearn the mindsets that hold you back, while learning strategies that keep you moving.
Finishing your book is great, and you'll definitely make progress at the very least, but that's not the biggest thing the Year has to offer you.
The Year brings you to a community of writers who understand that the fastest and most powerful way to improve as a writer is through encouragement, not criticism. Instead of having someone else tell you what worked for them, you learn how you write.
If you only ever take one writing workshop, the Year of Writing Magically should be the one.
The journey
To get the most out of your writing time and effort, you have to work on yourself.
So much of what stops us from writing is in our own heads, so that's where we begin. You won't write a word during the first month. Instead, you'll examine the beliefs you may be carrying that make it hard to write.
Then you'll discover yourself as a writer. You'll play in the world of your book. Again... not writing. Playing. Having fun. Building your energy and excitement.
Then we draft, together, as a community. So fun.
After that, we move into craft. Using the simple story theory of How Story Works, you'll let your book rest for a bit while we dive into the craft of storytelling.
Finally, we look at what comes next. Critiques and feedback. Agents and editors. Publishing, if that's the direction you want to go.
You leave with a deeper understanding of yourself as a writer and a clear sense of where your project goes next.
Registration opens September 1. Until then, feel free to check out the Substack or ask me any questions.
