Hey. I’m Lani.

I’ve spent the last few decades obsessed with stories and creativity and writers and how writers write. I wanted to write all my books without suffering so much. I tried everything. Writer’s Journey. Save the Cat. Plotting. Pantsing. Plantsing. Outlining. Sacrificing a duck on the full moon.

You know the drill.

Eventually, I realized it was all bullshit. Well… not entirely. That process worked for that writer, and then they told everyone it just worked. But how you write is entirely dependent upon your inner landscape, and until you figure out what that is, you’re going to keep doing what other people do and not making progress.

I started the Year of Writing Magically because I wanted a writing experience focused on community and couldn’t find one, so I made one up. I’ve taught at writers’ conferences and in college classrooms, and this is the most productive, joyful writing experience I’ve ever had. Now I get to have it every year.

I hope this year, you’ll join me.
